This episode is an interview with my friend, Obie Beard. We talk about his family, growing up boxing with his brothers, Coach Rayford Collins, the Jackson Boxing Club, missed opportunities in the 1980 Summer Olympics, and how he uses the boxing club as an outreach to area young people.
This episode has a direct connection to Jackson, often called the Hub City. We recorded Obie at the boxing club – on location. See the photo gallery below to get an idea of what we experienced, the awesome memorabilia, and the many famous boxers who boxed in the ring that you see displayed. We are truly grateful for Obie’s sharing of these powerful memories.
Obie has a dream of taking several young people on a trip to Jerusalem to experience the world on a new level. He needs help funding this trip, so if you can assist or make a donation, please contact him directly through his Facebook page (here) or calling him at this number: 731-402-1078.
